Breakaway Training

Breakaway Skills are a combination of physical techniques and safety principles that are designed to allow an individual to protect them self from physical injury and escape from a potentially violent or aggressive situation.

This half day specialist training will consider both theoretical components and practical application to carry out safe, effective breakaway techniques.

The session is facilitated by our experienced instructor and assessment will be continuous for the duration of the session.

Course content

• Principles of escape techniques and breakaway skills
• Importance of risk assessment
• Exploration of acceptable versus unacceptable methods of defense
• Verbal & non-verbal communication methods
• Communication components and importance when defusing situations
• De-escalation techniques
• Importance of distance, space, positions & stance, "direct hit" area
• Effective distraction, escalation avoidance techniques
• Legal, ethical and professional issues
• Identification of common mistakes and practice when faced with confrontational situations
• Behaviour patterns, warning and danger signs
• Professional responsibilities
• Practical application of skills under supervision to include scenario's relevant to place of work
• Assessment of competence

On completion of this half day training event candidates will be given an Elite Training Certificate of Attendance
