Breakaway and Conflict Resolution Training

Breakaway Skills are a combination of physical techniques and safety principles that are designed to allow an individual to protect them self from physical injury and escape from a potentially violent or aggressive situation.

They have been developed to minimize escalation of a potentially confrontational situation. Conflict Resolution is a range of methods used for alleviating or eliminating sources of conflict and is the process of attempting to resolve a situation through the use of negotiation and mediation.

 

This one-day training program includes both theoretical components and practical application to carry out safe, effective breakaway techniques & explore a range of methods to promote effective conflict resolution.

 

The session is facilitated by our experienced instructor and candidates will participate in a Health and Safety Assessment which will be carried out by our instructor prior to commencement of the training. During the training day participants learn and practice key skills to build their confidence to maintain composure whilst de-escalating customer conflict. Assessment will be continuous for the duration of the session providing personal development in this subject.

Course content
• Introduction to the origins of breakaway and conflict resolution
• Principles of escape techniques and breakaway skills
• Importance of risk assessment
• Exploration of acceptable versus unacceptable methods of defense
• Importance of distance, space, positions & stance, "direct hit" area
• Breakaway techniques – supervised practice and feedback (wrist, clothing & hair grabs, bear hugs, strangle, biting, kicking, punching & slapping)
• Psychology of Conflict Resolution
• Defusing and managing difficult situations
• Behaviour patterns, warning and danger signs
• Communication skills – verbal & non verbal methods
• De-escalation techniques, effective distraction, escalation avoidance techniques
• Managing unpredictability (drugs, alcohol, mental illness, learning disabilities)
• Origins of anger & aggressive behavior
• Planning & managing anger
• Identification of common mistakes & practice when faced with confrontational situations
• Professional responsibilities
• Introduction to the principles of control and restraint
• Practical application of skills. Individual assessment of competence and feedback

On completion of this one day training event candidates will be given an Elite Training Certificate of Attendance
