Dual Diagnosis describes the co-occurring problems of mental illness and substance misuse problems, although the needs of the dually diagnosed client are often complex and pose specific problems for care workers.

Dual Diagnosis affects up to one third of all clients with a severe mental illness such as Schizophrenia, and community care agencies are becoming increasingly involved in the care and support of mentally ill people who abuse alcohol or unprescribed drugs.

This 1-day course uses realistic scenarios to enable participants to look at the reasons why mentally ill clients are so prone to drug and alcohol problems, the potential consequences of dual diagnosis, and current assessment and treatment approaches.
