It is now well known that as many as 1 in 4 of the population will be affected by mental illness at some stage during their lives, but despite the increasingly high number of individuals suffering from mental ill health, much of the terminology, treatment and support options for mentally ill people remains shrouded in myth and stereotype.

Mental Health is a vast and complex subject, but this 1 or 2-day course is aimed at care workers with little prior experience or knowledge of mental health whose day-to-day work requires a basic grounding in some of the key terminologies used, the treatment and support options available, and the very valuable input that clients can gain from supported housing, day care and an ever increasing range of specialised community resources.
The programme offers an overview of the major mental disorders, the effect of such disorders on sufferers, how they are approached by medical and social care professionals and an examination of some of the myths and stereotypes that surround mental ill health.
