According to the Government's 'No Secrets' document, a Vulnerable Adult is defined as: 'A person of 18 years or older who is or may be in need of community care services by reason of mental or other disability, age or illness; and who is or may be unable to take care of him or herself, or unable to protect him or herself against significant harm or exploitation.' (Department of Health, 1999)

Protecting Vulnerable Adults is a 1-day course where participants will be introduced to the 'No Secrets' guidelines and encouraged to identify some of the key clinical and environmental factors associated with vulnerability. Case studies and audio-visual material will help illustrate realistic scenarios of potential and actual abuse, bullying and exploitation, and participants will be guided through the typical process of investigation where allegations have been made.
